A REGENCY DUEL TO THE DEATH. The New Yorker for March 12 has an interesting review by Arthur Krystal of THE LAST DUEL: A TRUE STORY OF DEATH AND HONOR by James Lansdale, which is about the last fatal duel of honor in Scotland in 1826. The Lansdale book is about duels of honor and the role of honor for aristocrats and aspiring gentlemen. However, the duel that is the subject of the book was between a banker and a merchant and the dispute arose out of a refusal to honor a bill of exchange.
