ALAN AYCKBOURN–INTIMATE EXCHANGES. I am going in to New York this evening with my son Nick to see an Alan Ayckbourn play. The play tonight is one of a set of 16 (the set of 16 is entitled INTIMATE EXCHANGES). Mary Jane and I saw two of them over the weekend. I suppose that if the run were longer I might find a way to see all 16. I have a flow chart of the plays in front of me. The structure of the plays is that the characters make decisions which determine which of the 16 possible chains of events happen. In the first five seconds of the play, a lady decides whether to have a cigarette. Over the weekend, Mary Jane and I saw two of the eight sequences of events that result when the lady decides to have the cigarette. Tonight, I will see one of the eight sequences of events that result when the lady decides not to have the cigarette.
