HOW THE VERY POOR SPEND THEIR MONEY WHEN THEY HAVE MORE THAN $1 A DAY. I posted here about the lives of people spending $2 to $10 a day (in current dollars, roughly between $1000 and $5000 a year). The article by Sara Corbett cites a study that found that when a family’s income goes from $1 a day to $4 a day, their spending on information-communication technology (e.g. cellphones), increases faster than spending on any other category–even health or housing.
