NOT BENDING YOUR KNEES IN TENNIS. This article in the current Harvard Magazine describes a revolutionary change in how tennis players move that is now being taught to Harvard tennis players. Traditionally, tennis players are taught to stay low when stroke the ball and when they move to the ball. Now, Harvard is teaching what they call the “high set”, in which a player maintains a high center of gravity except when the player is stroking the ball (a very important exception). The innovator is a former gymnast, who says that he picked up the idea from watching what Rod Laver did. Here is a video from the Harvard Magazine site demonstrating and explaining the “high set.”
