NEGOTIATING ON VOTING. My parents were usually in disagreement about their votes. I remember my father negotiating with my mother for an agreed slate of votes so that their votes wouldn’t cancel each other out. Then one day we had some friends over after an election, and my father started to say something to the effect that “this is how Marion and I voted.” My mother interrupted and said (with a twinkle?), “You don’t know how I voted. It’s a secret ballot.” My father didn’t know what to say.
