I have previously posted on how a linguist can trace a person’s language to a very small area–blocks in the Bronx or the area in which the bells of a French church can be heard. Roderick Conway Morris says that “Even today, recognizable variations of standard Venetian can be found on the island of Burano in the north-east of the lagoon and Pellestrina and Chiogga to the south-west of the city.”
