The name came from La Rotisserie Francaise, on 52nd Street in New York City because that is where the idea was first broached. The first draft was held in a bar on Third Avenue. Because many of the founders were in the media, there was a lot of press coverage the first year. The inventor says “The second season, there were Rotisserie leagues in every Major League press box.” And our league had its first season.
So, if 1981 was the first season, and it has run continuously ever since – wouldn’t that make this the 30th anniversary year?
