SET UP…JOKE. Mary Jane mentioned to a friend a number of years ago that she had given Annalisa and Nick a half rat made of rubber—obtained from a novelty catalog—and that the kids did not seem to be very impressed with it. Our friend said: “I could use that.” Our friend was a fifth grade teacher. She took to bringing her lunch in a brown paper bag and eating a sandwich at her desk during class. Then, on April Fool’s Day, she bit into her sandwich and started screaming. There was the rat—or half a rat. It was a complete success.
