MINNESOTA NICE.
MINNESOTA NICE. I had a memorable encounter with “Minnesota nice” while driving in Minneapolis. I was lost. And if I didn’t get to the boat on time we would miss a wedding that was important to us. This was before GPS, and I kept going wrong. Finally, at a stoplight I shouted in desperation: “This is a fucking nightmare!” (In telling this story I usually say that I asked for directions in a New York way.) When the light changed, the lady coming the other way stopped, rolled down her window, and said, “Can I help you? ” (In telling the story, I usually say that she gave me directions in a Minnesota way.)
