STEALING MAPLE SYRUP—LOTS OF IT. I have posted about the theft of a cast iron building (here), the burning down of brick buildings to steal the bricks (here), and organized rings which steal used grease (here). This article on Bloomberg Business Week by Diane Brady (link via Instapundit) tells about the theft of some 15,000 barrels of maple syrup (worth about $30 million) from a Quebec warehouse. The thieves had stolen the contents, leaving empty barrels behind. The source for the article is this report by Bristol Voss at Minyanville, who is surprised by two things. The theft was from “a global strategic maple syrup reserve” (who knew there was one?). And the thieves would have had to use “huge barrels or drums, forklifts, and large trucks”.
